Christopher AndiesDirector of Bands Christopher Andies is a graduate of Cherokee High School and Tennessee Technological University. While at TTU, he studied with nationally and internationally renowned professors such as Joseph Hermann, Dr. Charles Decker, Robert Jager, Chris McCormick, Dr. Joshua Hauser, and Dr. Greg Danner. He was a member of the Tennessee Tech Symphony Band, Troubadors Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and the TTU Trumpet Ensemble. The TTU Trumpet Ensemble won 2nd place in the Small Ensemble Division of the National Trumpet Competition in 2001.
During Mr. Andies' time at Volunteer High School, the band has earned multiple superior ratings at marching contests and ETSBOA Concert Band Festivals. The VHS Band has been featured performers at the All-State Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Outback Bowl in Tampa, The McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago, The Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, New York at the 2019 St. Patrick's Day Parade, and most recently at the 2024 Reliaquest Bowl in Tampa Florida. In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Andies remains active as a trumpet performer, clinician, adjudicator, and is an Endorsed Artist/Educator for Jupiter XO Trumpets. |
Lily Summey
Co-Director of Bands Director of Bands Church Hill Middle School Ms. Lily Summey is from Church Hill, Tennessee. She is a Tennessee Tech University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education. During her time at Tennessee Tech, she studied the flute under Dr. Mary Matthews and Dr. Gözde Çakır-Ramsey. With that, she was a member of several on-campus ensembles, including the Golden Eagles Marching Band, Chorale, Bryan Symphony Orchestra, symphonic band, wind ensemble, and flute choir. Additionally, she is a former member of the Volunteer High School Marching Band, where she was a flutist for two years and a drum major for two years.

Matthew Johnson
Percussion-Front Ensemble Matthew E. Johnson is from Church Hill and started his music journey in 2010 as a pianist. Moving to percussion in 2014, Johnson excelled in Mallets and joined the Volunteer High School band in fall 2016. Throughout his high school career he continued to study pitched percussion and held the section leader title for all four years. During this time, he was also drawn to Voice and Theater and began to study it further. Attending Austin Peay State University, he perused a degree in Vocal Music Education and English Literature. While at APSU, Johnson was in many Opera Productions such as “Operetta Opulence” and “Bella Voce”. Furthermore, he participated in outreach concerts and performed lead roles as Prince Charming and Prince Tamino from Viradot’s “Cendrillion” and Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” Johnson has now returned home to Church Hill as the a volunteer high school Choir Director and drama teacher. |
Lukas Goff
Percussion Director
Lukas Goff hails from East Tennessee and is an accomplished percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, and educator. He studied education at Northeast State Community College and East Tennessee State University, where he refined his musical skills under the guidance of several world-class performers and teachers. Lukas has marched with Chattanooga Independent in WGI and performed at WGI World Finals 2018, showcasing his talent on a national stage. With five years of teaching experience, Lukas is passionate about sharing his love for music and helping students reach their full potential.

Allison Phillips
Color Guard

Since then she has achieved 16 seasons of colorguard including 3 seasons of drum corps where she received two World Championship gold medals and 3 seasons of WGI, finishing top 5 WGI A class in 2022 and marching finals each year. She started with Volunteer High School in 2019 and has had the honor to teach at other schools in the northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia area as well during that time.
