WCU 2011
This Saturday, October 15th, the Volunteer Band was invited to participate in the Western Carolina University Tournament of Champions. This marching contest is one of the most prestigious marching contests in the Southeast and participation is by invitation only. The band competed in Class AA in Preliminary Competition and received 3rd place in class, winning awards of 1st Place in Color Guard and 3rd Place in Percussion in Class. Out of the 22 bands competing, the band was one of the 10 highest scoring bands and was selected to participate in Finals Competition for the first time in school history. The band competed against some of the best bands in the country in Finals and achieved 8th place in Finals. The band has been competing in the Western Carolina Contest since 2008 and this was our first time competing in the Finals competition
